If last year Alexandra spoke for both of the siblings in the season wrap-up interview, this time Roman is reinstated in his primogeniture rights:
-It's been a long and complex season for us. Things didn't start the way we wanted at the Grand Prix series, and the result at the Europeans was disappointing, but the win at the Universiade reversed the trend, and we came to the Worlds with renewed confidence.
-You've done the whole of Israel proud. It's the first entry of Israeli athletes in this sort of event and the first gold! Congratulations!
-Thanks!
- I've also noticed that at the end of your free dance routine, in several events in a row, you would tear off the headband you were wearing in a very dramatic gesture. Is it part of the choreography?
-No, not really. "Jesus Christ Superstar" was an artistically demanding piece and I just would vent out the dramatic buildup by doing that.
-What's the centerpiece of your training at the moment, a couple of weeks after the season ended?
-We're making our music selections and doing a lot ballet and fitness training. We also skated at an evening benefit at Floyd Hall Arena on April 4th, performing a part of our free dance and our exhibition piece. The event featured Johnny Weir and Jeremy Abbot as guest stars
.
-Susan Chun from lifeskate.com kindly promised to get us a few pictures and even probably a video of your skate soon. We're looking forward to getting it.
Galit Chait: "Patience is the Main Word"
I caught up with Galit shortly after her much-deserved and deferred by a year honeymoon, when she was already head over heels in the new training period.
-Galit, it was the first season you coached entirely on your own. What was the major learning experience for you so far?
-Patience. Every athlete has a different mindset, a different personality, and this has to be taken into account all the time.
-How has the focus of the training process shifted for the Zaretsky in the Olympic season?
-It's much more training now to get them on top of their form much earlier in the season. They're also doing a lot of off-ice exercises to improve endurance.
-Have you made your music selections for the new season?
-We've already made the original dance music selection, which is going to be "Hava Nagila". I will keep you posted about the free dance music choice when we make a decision on it.
-Who's designing the costumes this year?
-The designer's name is Natasha Bolshakova. She's designed costumes for several renowned skaters, including 1992 Olympic Champion Marina Klimova and 2002 Olympic Champion Marina Anissina.
