A Reunion 20 Years After
Judge and former 5-time Israel's National Champion Kfir Natan is hosting a reunion of the first skating school in Israel, which was started in Bat Yam in the early 90s by Ida Hilzberg. Most of the skaters that trained in the school are expected to come and share stories of their current life, hear Kfir's briefing on our National team and the new judging system, and even pay homage to the days of training by skating in the neighbouring Exhibition Gardens rink. The reunion will take place at the Yarkon Park, Tel Aviv, on August 23d at 12pm. |

Sasha Zaretsky Takes Center Stage In Her Interview
She is the younger of the two siblings and usually lets her elder brother have his say while we talk. But this time she takes over. The reason is plain – Roma is resting, and we decide not to disturb him. After all, he has done his fair share of work this season – we are back into the top 10 in ice dance. |

2008 Season Wrap-up
The 2008 figure skating season has ended with the World Championships in Gothenburg. Israel was presented in all the four disciplines and has won back its top 10 position with the 9th place of Sasha and Roman Zaretsky in ice dance. We would like to thank the entire IISF team and particularly our athletes for their effort and achievement. Kudos to our supporters who came from many parts of the world to cheer on, waving Israeli flags in the Scandinavium – the Championships venue. We had five days of intense competition, emotions running high, and immense beauty of performance – all that figure skating is about. We would like to thank the Organizing Committee for the warm hospitality making us feel at home during the entire event. It was great to see images of Sasha and Roman Zaretsky performing their original dance in the documentary of the Worlds shown during the closing banquet. And some skaters and coaches proved again they're capable of breathtaking dancing not only on the ice! We are grateful to our media colleagues who gave wide media coverage to our team – Nir Shuali from Maariv Sefi Shalem from Sport5, Jeremi Ist from the Jerusalem Post, Yair Kasparius from Yedioth Aharonot and all the other media sources that covered the event. We are looking forward to an even more successful next season with your cooperation and support.

High hopes had a fall
After his impressive 19th placement in the World Cup Short Track series in Quebec (Feb 1-3) Vladi Bikanov was enthusiastic about competing in the next World Cup event in Salt Lake City (Feb 8-10th). However, a bad fall during the practice session dashed his and our hopes and left him with the right leg broken. We wish Vladi a speedy recovery. For that reason we couldn't post the results of the competition since Vladi was our only competitor in that event. |

The Nokia Sports Centre is turning into an ice skating denizen. The mega-popular ice show "The Ice Age" known as "Stars on Ice" last year has again conquered a fully sold-out 12,000 seats auditorium. I have had a chance to talk to some of the participants – Olympic, World, and European Champions whom I was able to catch up with during their extremely busy schedule. Their words are presented precisely in the order they were taped. |

Elena Kaplan and Vladi Bikanov took part in the ISU World Cup Short Track series in Quebec City (Canada) Feb 1-3.
Vladi was 19th (the best result in the short track history for an Israeli short track athlete trained entirely on home ground since the first days of training) in the 1000 m distance and 26th in the 1500 m.
Lena Kaplan had a fall and couldn't finish the 1000 m. She cut her chin during the fall, which required stitching later on. But she pulled herself together and went out on the 1500 m heat to the applause of the public. She finished 25 th in it. The next series of the World Cup short track is in Salt Lake City, USA, Feb.8-10th. |

Sasha and Roman Zaretsky are seventh after the compulsory dance (Yankee Polka), the highest standing since they started to compete in the Europeans (2006) and the best personal score for that section of the competitive programme – 33.12.

COLD SENDOFF TO THE EUROPEANS
Three days are left before the 2008 European Championships in Zagreb. We have been working hard throughout the year to get our skaters ready for the major competition of the season. Our skaters have been training hard to reach the top of their competitive form. |

The Zaretsky placed 7th in Skate America, the kickoff of 2007 ISU Grand Prix Series. The brother and sister climbed one place up compared with their standings in Skate America 2006, ahead of ice dancing couples from Russia, Japan and China, and earning a total of 157.85 points, which is 13.90 points higher than their result at the same competition last year. 10 ice dancing teams took part in the event, with the US Tanith Belbin and Benjamin Agosto taking the first place. |
