Denis was born on September 5th, 1979 in Kharkov, the Ukraine.  He began skating at the age of 9. When he was 16, his family immigrated to Israel. Denis was one of the first short-track skaters to represent Israel internationally between the years 1999 and 2004, combining it with IDF (Israel Defence Force) service from 2001 until 2004. He took part in several European and World championships and numerous World Cup series. Denis qualified for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt-Lake City, but had to withdraw due to an injury. He was coached by his parents, Vera and Gregory Zaslavsky. Currently an M.A. student at Haifa University, the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, Denis also enjoys pursuing a few hobbies, such as tennis, chess, and music.

World Cup series, December 2000, Beijing, China – 5th (1500 m)

European Championships- 2000, Bormio, Italy – 6th place (1000 m)

World Championships-2003, Warsaw, Poland – 11th (1000 m)
